Aquarius - The Water Bearer

The chilly, dark days of late January and early February are ruled by one of the most enigmatic and complex of all the zodiac houses - Aquarius the Water Bearer. This bright, intelligent and contradictory character is closely associated with Ganymede, a beautiful youth found in Greek mythology. Ganymede was loved by Zeus and was cup bearer to the gods of Mount Olympus. Aquarius is ruled by the planet Saturn, is a fixed air sign and the 11th house in the western zodiac.

Aquarians usually fall into two categories - those who are extroverted, outgoing and lively and those who are more reserved, gentle and shy. However, this outer mask (whichever one is applicable to you) usually hides a much more complicated personality full of contradictions. Those born under the sign of Aquarius are often intelligent, attractive and fun to be with. They have a passion for knowledge and a lust for life that draws others towards them like iron filings to a magnet. They are strong willed often to the point of being stubborn. But they are willing to change their opinion if they are given evidence that counters their original standpoint. They believe passionately in seeking the truth, both about situations and about those around them, so never try and pull the wool over an Aquarian's eyes!

A solitary aspect

However lively and outgoing they might seem, Aquarians also crave times of peace and solitude when they can take a step back and find spiritual balance and inner peace. They often love remote places or being by the ocean. They might attract plenty of admirers, but Aquarians are very choosy about who they let into their inner circle. This can make forming long-term relationships tough for Aquarians.

But once they have formed a bond with someone, then that bond is usually for life. They are intensely loyal and faithful to their partners and are laid back and relaxed once they feel comfortable with someone. But beware of their temper, which can be explosive. Upset an Aquarian and they may not ever forgive you! Their intense nature means that they can often hold a grudge for years, particularly if they feel that an apology is not genuine.

They work best in social groups and their sharp intellect and strong creative side means that you'll often find Aquarians working in the media. They also have a strong psychic ability and are often interested in aspects of a spiritual nature.
