Tarot Major Arcana The Star
The twinkling constellations of the night sky inspire us all. Look up into the heavens and you will see thousands upon thousands of stars shining down on us. We 'wish upon a star' and those with dreams of fame and glory are said to have 'stars in their eyes'. For thousands of years the stars have played a key role in our lives and the appearance of this inspirational card in a Tarot spread tells of aspirations, dreams, creativity and the birth of new ideas.
Drawing the Star should fill you with hope and joy. This is one of the most positive cards in the Major Arcana and can have a huge impact on any reading. The imagery of the card often combines representations of the four elements (earth, air, fire and water) as well as the feminine aspect of the Star, usually shown as a goddess or female form. The Star represents inspiration and discovery, as well as renewed hope for the future. It promises exciting times ahead, new projects and roads previously untraveled. If the Star appears near The Lovers in a reading, it can speak of a life-changing partnership that could turn out not only to be that tall, dark and handsome stranger you've been waiting for, but your soulmate too.
The Star Reversed
Even reversed, the Star still has a strongly positive influence on a reading. However, it might also warn of a reluctance by the questioner to trust their inner feelings or gut reaction, and of possible setbacks, probably only temporary in nature. But in the main it will speak of a questioner who is not at ease with themselves and suffers from low self esteem. That lack of faith may cause unnecessary anxiety about the future, making it seem worse than it actually is. The message from the reversed Star is to grasp opportunity wherever it is found and to have the confidence in our ability to succeed.
If accompanied by the nine or ten of Swords it may indicate that the questioner refuses to see what is in front of them, or someone who is so set in their ways that they are letting opportunities pass them by. The Star tells us to open our minds and to tune in to the Universe in all its splendor.
