The Major Arcana Tarot Cards: The Sun
The appearance of the Sun in a Tarot reading is a cause for celebration. This universal symbol of light, hope and warmth is revered in some form in almost every culture around the world, and there's no doubt that it has a fundamental influence on our lives. The Sun in a reading indicates that no matter how dark things may seem, there is always light and hope.
It can also be thought of as a 'breakthrough' card, showing that a time of trouble is coming to an end. It indicates a fresh start, a new dawn that brings clarity and illumination to a situation. It also may represent the achievement of a goal that the questioner may have struggled towards. The Sun indicates completion and success, be that in a new job, a move to a new city or even the birth of a child and the completion of the family unit.
But, as with all Tarot messages, nothing is ever straightforward and while the appearance of the Sun is a good thing, its meaning has to be interpreted as a part of the whole spread. So the surrounding cards will influence the actual meaning of the card depending on its position, and whether it is upright or reversed.
The Reversed Sun
The reversed aspect of the Sun is more difficult to interpret. While it does not necessarily mean the absence of hope, it can mean the absence of clarity. A reversed Sun could indicate that warnings or opportunities have been missed, words have been taken out of context or that the questioner needs to look more closely at parts of their life. All of this could have a direct influence on the outcome.
It could also mean that the questioner is blind to reason or logic, and has instead looked into the shadows for their answers. If the question relates to health or finances, the reversed Sun may warn of a refusal to pay attention to the obvious signs that could hint at an underlying problem. However, as with our own Sun, there is always a new dawn, the light returns and, if the questioner is willing to heed the advice offered by this powerful card, they can push back the shadows and see clearly once again.
